Thinking about a brighter smile before the Christmas photos? Dee Dental Paisley on County Place has published two plain-English guides this autumn, one on composite bonding versus porcelain veneers and one on professional teeth whitening versus shop-bought kits. Dee Dental is one of the businesses in the Our Advertisers slider on paisley.org.uk. We've previously covered the practice and its treatments, registering and first visits and teeth straightening, so this time we've pulled out what the practice says about cosmetic options.

Composite bonding or veneers?
The practice's September 2026 guide, Composite Bonding vs Veneers: Which Is Right for You?, says both treatments are used for chips, discolouration, uneven edges and gaps, but they work differently.
- Composite bonding is a tooth-coloured resin shaped onto the tooth and hardened with a curing light. The guide says it usually needs little or no removal of natural tooth, no drilling in most cases, and is normally done in one appointment. It lasts around five years on average before it may need polishing, repair or replacement.
- Porcelain veneers are thin ceramic shells made in a dental laboratory. The guide explains that around 0.5mm of enamel is usually removed first, so the change is permanent, and that veneers take at least two appointments. In return they're more resistant to staining and chipping and, with good care, can last ten to fifteen years or more.
On cost, the practice says bonding is considerably cheaper per tooth because it's done chairside with no lab work, though the gap can narrow over ten or fifteen years once maintenance is counted. It doesn't publish set prices in the guide and says a clear cost breakdown is given at consultation, with no pressure to commit on the day.
One practical tip from the guide: if you're planning both, whiten first. Composite resin doesn't whiten like natural enamel, so bonding is shade-matched to your teeth after whitening to avoid a mismatch.
Professional whitening or a kit?
The second guide, Professional Teeth Whitening vs Whitening Kits (22 September 2026), compares strips, LED kits and whitening toothpaste with dentist-led treatment. Its main points:
- The General Dental Council classes tooth whitening as a dental treatment, and in the UK professional whitening should follow an assessment by a registered dentist.
- Products sold directly to consumers are restricted in strength, while dentist-supervised treatment can use stronger formulations within the legal limits.
- A check-up first matters because a darker tooth could be staining, an old filling, a crown or something that needs looking at. Whitening doesn't change the colour of crowns, veneers, implants or fillings.
- Temporary sensitivity and gum irritation are recognised side effects, and results aren't permanent; diet, smoking and oral hygiene all affect how long they last.
- Whitening toothpaste mainly helps with surface staining rather than lightening the tooth itself.
Dee Dental offers two professional systems. Boutique Teeth Whitening starts with a digital scan for custom trays, then you use the prescribed gel at home, with daytime and overnight options. Enlighten Teeth Whitening also uses custom trays within a structured programme. The practice website notes that teeth whitening is subject to having a dental check-up and being dentally fit.
Booking a consultation
Both guides point readers to a consultation, which can be booked online, by phone, or by messaging the team on WhatsApp through the website. You can see before-and-after examples in the practice's smile gallery and more on its composite bonding page.
Opening hours
The practice website lists Monday 9am to 7.30pm and Tuesday to Friday 9am to 5.45pm, closed at weekends. Please confirm on the main website or by phone before you visit.
