Three free online courses

According to the RenCAN Learn page on renfrewshireclimate.scot, the platform currently lists three free courses — with no cost to you or your group:

  • Community Climate Action — for people already active in their communities (volunteers, local groups, community organisations) who want to take climate action where they live.
  • Influencing Climate Action — for people who want to help their community take more climate action through everyday conversations, small actions and local decisions — without needing a big platform or formal role.
  • Climate Leaders – From Idea to Action — a practical course for people working or volunteering in local community groups, charities, social enterprises and similar organisations, focused on turning climate concern into achievable local action.

Register on rencanlearn.org, then access lessons from your RenCAN Learn profile. The platform describes bite-sized online lessons developed with local community groups, plus friendly workshops, tools and templates — aimed at charities, volunteers and local organisations, without jargon.

Workshops for community groups

Alongside the online courses, RenCAN Learn offers Community Climate Action Workshops in Renfrewshire. Sessions bring together local community groups, residents and third-sector organisations to explore practical climate steps, combining community development with a service-design approach.

The Hub page states that workshops can be arranged with existing community groups at times that work for them, and that course availability is limited. To learn more or book, email enquiries@renfrewshireclimate.scot.

Facilitator Scott Duncan is described on the official page as having 20+ years of community development experience with a focus on community-based climate action, and as an approved Trainer and Associate Member of IEMA (Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment).

Paisley library sessions and what’s on

RenCAN Hub (which hosts RenCAN Learn) publishes regular library drop-ins and workshops. On the Hub site at the time of writing:

  • Regular workshops and talks at Paisley Central Library on the last Wednesday of the month, 11am–1pm
  • Drop-ins on the first three Wednesdays of each month (except school holidays): Ferguslie Park Community Library (1st), Paisley Central Library (2nd), Johnstone Library (3rd), typically 11am–1pm

The events page also lists wider Hub activity — for example the RenCAN Annual Network Gathering at The Wynd Centre, Paisley (check the live listing for the current date). Always confirm times and venues on renfrewshireclimate.scot/events/ before attending.

Who delivers RenCAN Learn

RenCAN Hub has teamed up with Sustain the Change to set up RenCAN Learn. Renfrewshire Climate Action Hub (RenCAN Hub) is delivered by Local Energy Action Plan (LEAP) and funded as part of the Scottish Government’s regional climate hub programme.
