RenCAN Learn is the free, place-based climate learning platform for people and groups in Renfrewshire, and one of the organisations in the Our Advertisers slider on paisley.org.uk. We have covered the platform and its free courses and workshops before. This time we've looked at what is coming up this autumn and winter on the RenCAN Hub events page, and how to join the wider Renfrewshire Climate Action Network.

Climate Action Workshop at Paisley Central Library: Wednesday 28 October

The RenCAN Hub events page lists a Climate Action Workshop at Paisley Central Library on Wednesday 28 October, 11am to 1pm. It is described as a relaxed, hands-on session on simple, practical steps communities can take on climate action, looking at local climate impacts and projects already making a difference in Renfrewshire. It is part of RenCAN Learn and is facilitated by Scott Duncan, an experienced community development practitioner. The workshop is open to everyone, whether you are just curious, already involved, or want to meet other people. Tickets are booked through the link on the event page.

Upcycled tote bags at the library: 25 November

On 25 November, also at Paisley Central Library, the Hub lists a session to design your own upcycled tote bag with Sewing2gether All Nations, described as a calm, creative break from the Christmas shopping rush. The event page doesn't give a start time, so check the event page for booking details and timings.

Fix & Mend Lochwinnoch: 3 November and 1 December

The monthly Fix & Mend repair drop-in runs at the Men's Shed, Lochhead Gardens, Lochwinnoch, from 6pm to 9pm on Tuesday 3 November and Tuesday 1 December 2026. A dedicated repairer is on hand to help you fix broken items, and the Hub says it has successfully fixed lamps, accordion cases, chairs, bicycles and more, as long as the item is fixable. A PAT testing service is also available to check that electrical items are safe. There is no need to book: just turn up. Questions can go to toni-ann@myleapproject.org, the contact given on the event pages.

Join the network

The Renfrewshire Climate Action Network (RenCAN) is a network of community-led organisations and individuals tackling climate change in Renfrewshire, hosted by the RenCAN Hub, which is part of LEAP (Local Energy Action Plan) and based in Lochwinnoch. Joining takes about five minutes using the form on the Hub's Join Us page, either as an organisation or as an individual. Members are kept informed about what is happening across the region, receive invitations to events and activities, and are eligible to apply for the Hub's seed fund. The network also has a public Facebook group for sharing flyers and information, and the Hub runs WhatsApp communities on topics including food, energy, culture and wellbeing, waste and reuse, conservation and nature restoration, and climate change education.

The Hub sends a monthly digest to its mailing list, which it says has around 130 subscribers. You can join the mailing list from the Hub website.

Free online courses

RenCAN Learn's online platform at rencanlearn.org offers bite-sized lessons developed with local community groups, and is free to get started. The Hub's RenCAN Learn page lists three courses so far: Community Climate Action, Influencing Climate Action, and Climate Leaders: From Idea to Action. Register on the site and then find your lessons in your RenCAN Learn profile. For questions about courses or partnerships, the RenCAN Learn site has a contact form.

Funding note

The Hub's 2026/27 Climate Action Grants page currently shows that the grants round has closed. Check the funding page for any future updates.
