West College Scotland’s Paisley campus on Renfrew Road is now home to a Remote Wind Laboratory, a teaching rig that lets students run live wind turbine experiments through an online platform. A Remote Wind Laboratory in Paisley


The college announced on 15 September 2026 that the Remote Wind Laboratory had arrived at the Paisley campus. It was designed and built by the University of Edinburgh, with funding from the Ufi VocTech Trust.


Users connect through an online platform and can change variables such as wind speed, blade pitch and yaw, then watch live performance data from the turbine. The college says this gives learners, schools, employers and people looking to retrain a practical way to try renewable energy engineering.


Robert Campbell, the college’s Business and Economic Development Manager, called it “an excellent example of what can be achieved through collaboration between colleges, universities, and industry.” The college thanked the University of Edinburgh, ESP, the Ufi VocTech Trust and the Engineering Professors’ Council, and says it looks forward to welcoming users from the college and beyond.


Free Care Careers Event this Wednesday


The college’s Health and Social Care Career Events return this October. The Paisley campus event runs on Wednesday 28 October 2026, from 10am to 2pm. It is free and open to students, job seekers and anyone interested in working in care.

Benches for the new Paisley Grammar School


Paisley campus students have also been working on local projects. In June the college reported that Level 5 Foundation Apprentices from its 2025/26 Construction cohort designed, built and painted eight outdoor benches for the new Paisley Grammar School campus, working with Morrison Construction and Renfrewshire Council. The students gave two afternoons a week to the project and visited the school site several times while it was being built.
