UWS, the University of the West of Scotland, has its Paisley Campus on High Street and is one of the organisations in the Our Advertisers slider on paisley.org.uk. We covered the campus and its facilities in an earlier feature. This time we're looking ahead to two dates on the Paisley calendar: the Undergraduate Open Day on Saturday 17 October and the Subject Showcase on Saturday 21 November.

Undergraduate Open Day: Saturday 17 October, 11am to 2.30pm

UWS describes Paisley as its largest campus. According to the event page, the autumn open day includes tours of the campus facilities, including the en-suite student accommodation, the gym (free for UWS students), the Students' Union, labs and lecture halls. Visitors can attend subject presentations and demos, meet staff and academics, get funding information, application help and admissions advice, and find out about study abroad, work placements and research at UWS.

The Paisley open day is aimed at people interested in courses in business, computing, criminology and psychology, English language, engineering, law, nursing, science, social care and social work, and social sciences. UWS lists the relevant Paisley programmes on its open days page, from Business with Marketing and Computer Games Development to Civil Engineering, Scots Law, Adult and Mental Health Nursing, Forensic Science and Social Work.

Subject Showcase: Saturday 21 November, 11am to 2.30pm

The Subject Showcase is a more hands-on, course-by-course event. UWS pitches it as a chance to experience your chosen subject before the UCAS application deadline, which it gives as 13 January 2027. The published running order starts with registration at Main Reception from 11am, then a #LifeAtUWS talk at 11.15am on UCAS applications, late entry options and student support. Academic school sessions follow from 11.45am to 1.30pm, with a guided campus tour at 1.30pm.

A few of the sessions listed for Paisley:

  • An introduction to criminal law in the Moot Room in the Gardner Building, for law and Scots law applicants
  • A computing session that builds a network out of Micro:bits using Python
  • A VR experience and student work showcase for Computer Games Development, plus a Music Technology showcase in the campus studios
  • A fluid pressure and Bernoulli's Principle session for engineering applicants
  • A crime scene investigation lab session for forensic science
  • Nursing skills-lab sessions in the Barbour building, including chest auscultation, cardiac rhythms and an immersive suite experience
  • A mock psychology lecture on conformity, and a session asking "Is this English? Language in Scotland"

UWS notes that catering outlets will be open during the showcase and are cashless, and that a quiet space is available for anyone who needs a break. Registration is through the Subject Showcase event page.

Getting there

For both events, UWS says visitor parking is available all day with entry via the Lady Lane entrance. Paisley Gilmour Street station is around a 10-minute walk from the main entrance. Session times and rooms can change, so check the event pages before you go.

UWS also lists online undergraduate webinars: "UCAS Unlocked: Master Your Application" on 22 October and 25 November (6pm to 7pm), and a Virtual Parents/Supporters Evening on 10 December (6pm to 7pm). Campus visits can be booked separately, and prospective students can chat to current students through the UWS website. Registration links for all of these are on the UWS open days page.
