Street Stuff’s biggest ever programme of free summer activities

The award-winning Street Stuff programme will run its busiest ever timetable of free activities for young people over the summer holidays.

Street Stuff, which includes the Renfrewshire Youth Bus, street football with coaching from St Mirren FC and the youth gym bus, will be running two sessions a day, six days a week throughout Renfrewshire over the next six weeks.

The packed programme will see activity sessions running in afternoons and evenings every Monday to Saturday over the holidays.

The activities, aimed at young people aged between 13 and 18, will be on offer in Ferguslie, Johnstone Castle, Foxbar, Howwood, Gallowhill, Bridge of Weir, Bishopton, Kilbarchan, Glenburn, Linwood, Kirklandneuk, Shortroods, Renfrew, Seedhill and Hunterhill among others places.

The Box, a multi-purpose entertainment unit kitted out with computer games and dance mats, will also be in Renfrew’s King George V playing fields over the summer period.

Councillor Kenny McLaren, Renfrewshire Council’s Community Safety spokesperson, said: “Street Stuff takes activities, state of the art fitness and computer game equipment, and expert coaches, right out into the heart of local communities to encourage young people to get involved in positive, healthy activities.

“The programme has become extremely popular with young people across Renfrewshire and as a result we’re running our busiest summer timetable ever to give as many young people as possible the chance to get involved over the holidays.”

Street Stuff is a hugely successful youth diversion activity programme which has helped contribute to significant reductions in youth disorder in communities across Renfrewshire.

The programme attracts more than 15,000 young people a year and has led to youth disorder dropping between 14% and 30% in each area where it operates.

Street Stuff is run in partnership by Renfrewshire Council, Strathclyde Police, Strathclyde Fire and Rescue, Engage Renfrewshire, Arriva, St Mirren FC and Reid Kerr College.
