St Mirren are back to winning ways. The Buddies beat Dundee 2-1 in Paisley on Saturday afternoon, ending a run of five straight defeats in a match played in driving rain and strong winds as Storm Boelo arrived.
How the goals came
Saints went ahead after 20 minutes with a goal that started at the back. Goalkeeper Jacob Chapman launched a long pass out to Eseosa Sule on the right, and Sule picked out wing-back Calvin Ramsay charging through the middle. Ramsay’s shot squeezed over the line despite Dundee keeper Owen Goodman getting a hand to it. It was Ramsay’s first goal since joining the club on loan in the summer.
Sule doubled the lead early in the second half, rising to head home a Killian Phillips cross on 56 minutes for his second goal in as many games.
Dundee pulled one back on 74 minutes when Bradley Fink scored at the second attempt after Chapman had saved his first effort. The visitors pressed hard after that, and Ethan Hamilton came within inches of an equaliser in stoppage time when his shot cracked off the underside of the bar and bounced clear.
A welcome three points
A crowd of 6,532 braved the weather, and the soaked home support had plenty to cheer at the final whistle. Manager Craig McLeish said he was delighted for his players, who had needed a result like this after a difficult few weeks, and said he hoped the win marked the end of the poor run.
The win takes St Mirren to 16 points, two ahead of Dundee.
