Out in Paisley’s West End, Skirlies Cafe on Broomlands Street is a family-run favourite that describes itself as “no frills, just great food and great service” — and judging by its 11,000-odd Facebook followers, plenty of Buddies agree. It’s the kind of place you go for a proper breakfast, a good coffee and a natter.
Baking is the big draw here, with everything made in-house daily. The cake list reads like a Scottish tearoom dream: caramel shortcake, millionaire shortcake, Empire biscuits, Rocky Road, Mars Bar crispy cakes, old-school sponge and more, with a few gluten-free options too. Breakfast is served until 2pm, there are fresh soups on (leek and potato and lentil when we looked), and on Sundays they do roasts.
Can’t make it in? They deliver locally through Paisley Eats as well. Either way, it’s a warm, welcoming spot that’s well worth the short walk west from the town centre.
Find them at 4 Broomlands Street, Paisley PA1 2LR. Call 0141 849 6921. Directory listings give roughly 8am–4pm on weekdays, 9am–3pm on Saturdays and 10am–5pm on Sundays, but they sometimes stay open later for sit-in, so it’s worth checking Facebook before you go.
