Two of Renfrewshire Council’s Children’s Houses have received positive feedback following inspections by the Care Inspectorate.

Paisley’s Beech Avenue and Johnstone’s Barochan Road were inspected by the independent scrutiny body as part of ensuring young people receive the very best care.

Beech Avenue achieved a good grade for its warm, nurturing relationships between staff and young people. The service provides young people with a strong safeguarding ethos while allowing them freedom to grow as individuals. They give young people the support they need in their health, education and in keeping family connections.

Inspectors noted improvements to Barochan Road, including elements of good practice. The caring relationships and supportive living environment were highlighted in the report. Young people in the service are achieving in their education, with their interests and wellbeing supported.

Both services were commended for their commitment to continuous improvement, with staff at each home benefitting from training and development.

Councillor Emma Rodden, convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Education and Children’s Services Policy Board, said: “We are proud of the dedication shown by staff in our children’s houses who work tirelessly to provide safe, supportive and nurturing environments for our young people. Ensuring these young people feel safe, loved and respected is our highest priority and our teams are committed to helping them achieve the very best outcomes.

“There are many strengths in our teams and areas where we want to improve. We are committed to working on these areas and ensure that every child and young person in our care has the very best support we can offer.”
