Communities and visitors across Renfrewshire are in for a treat later this month when the Paisley 2021 Weekend takes place on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 August.

The Paisley 2021 Weekend will showcase culture in Paisley and Renfrewshire with a dozen spectacular events as part of the push towards Paisley’s bid to be UK City of Culture 2021.

Paisley Music Festival kicks-off the celebrations on Monday 15 August with a packed programme of gigs and fringe-style events across pubs and clubs in Paisley town centre.

Erskine Gala Day is also on that weekend with lots of entertainment and family fun on offer.

Finishing up the weekend is the Paisley 10k and 3k Fun Run with more than 2,000 runners already signed up for this great day out.

Highlights of the weekend include:
-Paisley Music Week
-Paisley 10k and 3k

-Loud n Proud Busking Day
-Drum Jam
-PACE Massive Weekend
-Scottish Afro-Caribbean Carnival at Barshaw Park

Jean Cameron, Bid Director for Paisley 2021, said: “There is a great breadth and depth of cultural events taking place right across Renfrewshire and the Paisley 2021 Weekend is about putting them on the map. These events are at the heart of local communities and bringing them together as part of the Paisley 2021 Weekend is a great way to showcase what Renfrewshire has to offer.

“Culture means different things to different people but the role it has to play on our lives is important to everyone – helping us to reach our potential whether we get involved or just enjoy the experience.  The Paisley 2021 Weekend is accessible to all and there’s something for everyone. Everyone can get involved.”

The Paisley 2021 bid aims to transform the town and Renfrewshire’s future by using its unique cultural and heritage offering as the home of the Paisley Pattern and one-time centre of the global textile industry.

Bids are expected to be lodged with the UK Government’s Department for Culture, Media and Sport in Spring 2017.
