Renfrewshire parents and carers whose child can start school next year can register them during November.

Children must have their fifth birthday between 1 March 2026 and 28 February 2027 to be registered.

Parents and carers should apply for a place at school using an online form on Renfrewshire Council’s website.

Children can be registered at either their catchment area’s denominational (Roman Catholic) or non-denominational school, or the Gaelic class at West Primary School.

Birth certificates are required to complete registration, but anyone who cannot find their child’s birth certificate should continue to apply for school and then ask for a replacement birth certificate to provide to the school at a later date.

Anyone who wants their child to go to a school not in their catchment must register at a catchment school first and then make a placing request.

Parents and carers with children who will be aged four when they are due to start school have the right to an additional year at nursery. They must contact their child’s nursery or childminder first, then register their child for school, and finally apply for an additional year of free nursery or childcare using the form on the Council’s website.

Those who cannot apply online to register for school should call their catchment school and make an appointment. Advice on registering for school is also available by calling 0300 300 0170.

Councillor Emma Rodden, Convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Education and Children’s Services Policy Board, said: “Registering for school is an important milestone and can be done online or by speaking to your child’s catchment school should anyone require an alternative offline option.”
