Renfrewshire Council has apologised to those affected after a former Paisley Grammar School computing teacher was convicted of sexual offences against teenage boys, and confirmed it will commission an independent Learning Review.

Martin Gallacher, 46, was convicted at Paisley Sheriff Court on Wednesday 23 September 2026 of numerous sexual offences which took place between March 2015 and June 2024 while he was employed at the school.

A council spokesperson said: “We note the guilty verdict after the trial of Martin Gallacher at Paisley Sheriff Court and are sorry for the impact his actions have had on those affected.

“The safety and wellbeing of our pupils is of the utmost importance to us. Wellbeing support is being offered to everyone affected by his actions.

“Following the court decision this week, we will be commissioning an independent Learning Review which will involve police, health and multi-agency partners.”

Following the conviction, the Crown moved for a Sexual Harm Prevention Order. Non-harassment orders preventing Gallacher from contacting each of his victims were also sought. Sheriff Eoin McGinty adjourned sentencing until next month for the preparation of background reports. Consideration of the orders was continued until the same date. Gallacher was remanded in custody.
