Residents of Renfrew are being urged to find out if they have Covid-19 with new testing facilities temporarily available in the town.
A mobile testing site will be open from Friday 4 – Friday 18 June helping to stop the spread of the virus locally.
The testing site is based in the car park of Kirklandneuk Community Centre and is for anyone who lives, works or goes to school in the local area. The site will be open from 10am – 6pm, Friday 4 – Friday 18 June (Wednesday 9 June excepted).
People with Covid-19 symptoms – a new persistent cough, high temperature, and a loss of taste or smell – but also those not displaying any symptoms can attend the site and take a PCR test. Tests should be booked online advance at www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-
Residents without Covid-19 symptoms can also collect free lateral flow test kits from Renfrew Town Hall to take home with them.
Renfrew Town Hall will operate as a drop-in collection point on Friday 4 June, Monday 7-Friday 11 June and Monday 14 – Friday 18 June from 9am – 5pm.
Renfrewshire Council Depute Leader, Cllr Jim Paterson said: “Case numbers have been growing and testing is hugely important in identifying cases and working to reduce transmission. Testing sites have had people attend who test positive while experiencing or reporting no symptoms, and they may have unknowingly been transmitting the virus to others.
“The temporary testing site at Kirklandneuk Community Centre is part of the national community testing programme. We are also establishing this temporary collection point at the town hall to give residents of Renfrew as many options as possible to take a test. By doing so, they will be helping themselves, their loved ones and their community.”
Anyone who tests positive will be required to self-isolate – along with the rest of their household – for ten days. Financial support is available and people may be eligible for a Self-Isolation Support Grant which can be applied for via Renfrewshire Council.
