Paisley punched well above its weight on the world stage recently, as the Tannahill Centre and the Darkwood Crew represented Renfrewshire at a major international conference.

Paisley's Tannahill Centre takes centre stage at global community conference

The groups took part in the World Community Development Conference 2026, held at the University of Glasgow's James McCune Smith Learning Hub on 30th June. Organised by the International Association for Community Development in partnership with the university, the event brought together community workers, policymakers, academics and activists from around the globe, under the theme 'Community Development in a Chaotic World: Challenge, Change and Collective Action'.

Delegates shared ideas and approaches to the challenges facing communities everywhere, and special guests included Jerry O'Donovan, Consul General of Ireland to Scotland. For our own Tannahill Centre and Darkwood Crew to be showcasing their work among such company is a real feather in Renfrewshire's cap — and a lovely reminder of the brilliant grassroots work happening right here on our doorstep.
