Paisley no longer has any functioning police custody cells, meaning officers dealing with someone in custody have to take them all the way to Greenock and drive back again.
For a town of Paisley's size, that is a long empty stretch. The town once had plenty of cells. The ones at Mill Street were among the last still in use, and they have since been decommissioned and sold off. With those gone, there are none left in Paisley.
That leaves frontline officers covering the trip to Greenock and the return journey each time someone needs to be held.
