Renfrewshire parents invited to meeting on education of children with additional support needs

Parents and carers of children in Renfrewshire with additional support needs are being invited to a meeting to discuss arrangements for the education of their children over the next year.

The meeting in Johnstone Town Hall at 6.30pm on Wednesday May 11 has been organised by Renfrewshire Council and has been arranged to keep parents and carers informed as construction work continues on the £18.8 million Riverbrae School in Linwood.

The school had been scheduled to open this year but delays have meant that the existing Clippens and Kersland Schools, and Hollybush Pre-5 Centre, are continuing to operate.

Catherine Gilius, who will be head teacher of Riverbrae School, along with education and property officials from Renfrewshire Council will be present at the meeting to give information.

A Renfrewshire Council spokesperson said: “The aim of the meeting is to keep parents and staff informed about our proposed arrangements until Riverbrae School opens.

“We have had tremendous support from everyone involved with the education of children with additional support needs as we develop what will be a state of the art educational facility.

“At the same time, we realise that the delayed opening has caused uncertainty and we want to give people the information they are entitled to as to how we are now taking the project forward to completion.

“That will include the arrangements we are keeping in place until the opening and more detail on how the transition from existing facilities to the new school will be arranged.

“A key part of that process will be keeping parents and carers regularly updated and this meeting and the question and answer session is very much part of what will be a continuing process.”
