LOCAL HEROES JOIN QUEEN FOR HOLYROOD’S OFFICIAL OPENING

RAH NURSE TRACY JOINS COVID HEROES AT SCOTTISH PARLIAMENT

RAH nurse Tracy Morton was a guest of Neil Bibby MSP at the opening ceremony for the sixth session of the Scottish Parliament. Covid heroes from across Scotland joined MSPs and royalty as the Queen formally opened the new session.

A senior charge nurse at Ward 4 at the RAH, Tracy has been on the frontline as the NHS has battled Covid. MSPs were asked to invite people from the community who had made a positive difference during the pandemic to attend the opening. After the ceremony, Tracy met MSPs, including First Minister Nicola Sturgeon and Scottish Labour Leader, Anas Sarwar, and shared her experiences of the pandemic. She was accompanied to the opening ceremony by her mum Sheena.

Neil Bibby MSP said:

“The official opening of the Scottish Parliament is always a major event at Holyrood. This time it was particularly significant, as we were joined by Covid heroes who had contributed to their community and the country’s battle with the virus. It was a pleasure to host local Covid hero Tracy Morton and her mum Sheena in the Scottish Parliament for the day.

“Tracy is a senior charge nurse at the RAH and she, like so many others in the NHS, has been working flat out throughout the pandemic. I wanted to make sure that we recognise Tracy and all our NHS staff for the amazing work they do, especially at a time like this.”

Tracy Morton said:

“It was a privilege to be nominated as a ‘local hero’ and invited by Neil to the opening of the sixth session of the Scottish Parliament. The nomination was recognition for the positive contribution made to people’s lives during the difficult past few months.

“I love my job and I love my team. Working throughout the pandemic, my team and people  at every level at the RAH would come into work, no matter how stressed or frightened or anxious they might be. They came in to work and got on with the job. They did for their colleagues and for the patients. I accepted the nomination on behalf of all of us.

“It was so nice to be thought of and to get the recognition for what they have done. It was nice to share the experience with my mum too. We had a tour of the Parliament, we met a lot of MSPs and other local heroes. I even got to meet the Queen. It was a lovely day and one that we will remember.”
