Across Renfrewshire, hundreds of kids have been enjoying free Easter holiday activity camps.

The Street Stuff multi-sports camps, provided by Renfrewshire Council and St Mirren Football Club, have been fully booked during the whole Easter break with around 750 places taken each week.

Young people aged five to 14 enjoyed taking part in football, basketball, hand ball, hockey, badminton, tennis, dance and more, with activities happening twice a week in Ferguslie, Foxbar, Johnstone, Linwood and Renfrew.

Kids also got a free healthy lunch each day they attended, helping to target holiday hunger.

Councillor Marie McGurk, convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Communities and Housing policy board, visited St Paul’s to find out how kids have been enjoying the experience.

She said: “It’s very clear that the kids have a great time running about, being with their friends and making new ones. School holidays are a time when children should enjoy having free time to play all day. It’s why we continue to put on Street Stuff holiday camps to ensure children can have a fun break from school and a free healthy meal, reducing children experiencing holiday hunger.”

“As an established and award-winning programme, Street Stuff is well known within the community and continues to provide fun physical and educational activities that support children and young people’s wellbeing during the whole year.”

Street Stuff provide a range of free multi-sport, gaming and educational activities six evenings a week, Monday to Saturday, throughout the year to offer young people across Renfrewshire access to exercise and social activities that they may otherwise not have the chance to take part in. A healthy meal is provided to each young person as part of the council’s Winter Connections programme.
