A new summer holiday programme of free activities and experiences for children, young people and families has been launched.

Organised by local community and voluntary groups and organisations and supported by Renfrewshire Council, the programme pulls together a whole host of free fun for everyone to take part in over the summer holidays.

The webpage Free activities for families, children and young people (Summer of Fun) is hosted on the Council’s website and details what’s on across Renfrewshire.

Activities currently listed include sports, swimming, cheerleading, arts and craft, games and gaming, family fun days, music, drama and dance, cooking and gardening, roller skating, silent discos, and much more.

The current listings on the website will continue to be expanded upon, with many more activities to be listed shortly. People are encouraged to bookmark the page and come back to it regularly.

The community programme is part of the wider Summer of Fun programme that includes free activities put on by Street Stuff, OneRen Libraries, and the Council’s summer activity camps supported by the Community Learning and Development Team.

Libraries will have drop-in and play sessions, including a marble maze, giant games, film club, arts and crafts, and the Summer Reading Challenge. The Skoobmobile will be out and about in the community visiting Gallowhill, Houston, Howwood and other local areas. These activities are linked to from the Council’s website.

All Council-funded activities are free and include snacks or meals depending on the length of the activity.

Renfrewshire Provost Lorraine Cameron said: “The first Summer of Fun programme was well-loved by families, children and young people last year and it’s great to once again work with community and voluntary groups and organisations to be able to put on another programme filled with free and fun activities and experiences, with something for everyone.

“The programme helps children, young people and families socialise and make and deepen connections throughout the long summer holidays, offering a wider range of opportunities that build on the existing programmes from the Council, OneRen and other partners. I would encourage people to check out what is on offer by visiting the website.”
