Plans to change parking and loading rules along Elderslie's Main Road are going before councillors this week, as the village's walking and cycling project takes another step forward.

The traffic order supports Elderslie for Everyone, a scheme that aims to close a gap in National Cycle Route 7 along Main Road.

Renfrewshire Council's Infrastructure, Land and Environment Policy Board will consider it on Wednesday 4 November.

What would change

The order covers Main Road, Canal Street and Glenpatrick Road. It includes waiting and loading restrictions, limited-stay parking, bus stops, disabled parking bays, a pedestrian crossing and the restrictions needed for a segregated cycle track.

Nobody objected during the consultation. One local business asked whether unrestricted parking would stay available on Castle Road, and council officers confirmed it would.

A traffic order with no objections wouldn't usually need a board decision, but officers say they're bringing this one to councillors because of how important it is to the project. They're recommending the restrictions go ahead as proposed.

Not a done deal yet

Approval wouldn't mean the cycle route is about to be built. Detailed design of Elderslie for Everyone is due to be finished by March 2027, and the council would then have to apply for funding to pay for construction.

If councillors approve the order, officers will arrange the road markings and signs needed to make the new restrictions enforceable.

The same board meeting will also look at phased 20mph limits, residents-only parking on Marchfield Avenue and a 40mph limit for Erskine's Southbar Road and Bridgeway.
