When Matthew Coffield founded MJC LAW in 2016, he was taking a chance on an idea and on himself. What followed was years of hard work, enthusiasm and late nights as he set out to build the firm he had envisioned. Ten years later, surrounded by the people who helped make that vision a reality, he celebrated the firm’s first decade.

Celebrating a Decade of MJC LAW: From One Vision to an Award-Winning Firm

Held at the Lynnhurst Hotel, the anniversary celebration brought together family, friends, colleagues, clients and long‑standing professional connections who have all played a part in MJC LAW’s story. More than simply marking ten years in business, the evening was an opportunity to reflect on the firm’s journey, thank those who have helped shape it and celebrate everything that has been achieved. Guests enjoyed an evening of conversation, laughter, live music and dancing, creating a fitting celebration of the milestone.

Among those celebrating with MJC LAW was the Provost of Renfrewshire, whose attendance reflected the valued relationship that has grown between the firm and the Provost through a shared commitment to the local community.

Speaking during the evening, Matthew reflected on the journey that had brought everyone together.

“Tonight is not just about a company being 10 years old. Tonight is a celebration of a journey that started with a vision that required a great deal of hard work, enthusiasm and late nights to try and create something special.

“Ten years ago, I took a gamble on an idea and on myself, and tonight’s casino theme is no coincidence.”

Over the past decade, MJC LAW has grown from a newly established practice into an award‑winning firm recognised nationally. During his speech, Matthew described being named High Street Firm of the Year at the Herald Law Awards as “the jewel in the crown” of the firm’s first decade.

Although much has changed since 2016, the principles on which Matthew founded MJC LAW have remained constant. From improving access to justice and supporting local charities to building trusted relationships with clients and the wider community, MJC LAW has remained committed to making a positive difference both inside and outside the courtroom. Those principles continue to shape the firm’s vision as it looks towards its next chapter.

For Matthew, however, the evening was never just about celebrating a business. It was about recognising the people who had helped shape it. Reflecting on what the milestone meant to him personally, he paid tribute to the team around him.

“There is nothing that makes me happier and more proud than being in the office and seeing all of you do what you do so well.

“I’m proud of every single member of the team.”

What began as one solicitor taking a chance on an idea has become an award‑winning law firm, but Matthew made clear that the firm’s greatest achievement has never been measured by awards alone. Instead, it has been built on the people who believed in that vision, supported it and helped turn it into reality. The anniversary was as much about thanking those people as it was about celebrating the firm’s success.

Bringing his speech to a close, Matthew thanked everyone who had been part of MJC LAW’s journey before concluding:

“Here’s to the last 10 years. Here’s to a bright and exciting future.”
