Renfrewshire Council for Voluntary Services (RCVS) is looking for members of the local community to play a vital part in making sure AgeFest 2011 is the biggest and best celebration of older people in Renfrewshire.

AgeFest 2011 will be a celebration of older people in Renfrewshire that everyone can enjoy. Its focus will be on bringing together people of all ages from across the local area to celebrate older adults and have fun. Older people play a vital role in our community and we should enjoy it together.

RCVS is looking for people to join the AgeFest 2011 Planning Group. We want a wide range of people with different skills and experience to come together and create a unique event filled with the best range of activities and opportunities. Ultimately we want to make the next AgeFest even more successful than the last one held in Renfrewshire.

AgeFest 2009 was held in the Lagoon Centre in Paisley and saw over 250 taking part. The event offered games of table tennis and the Nintendo Wii, tasters sessions for tai chi and pilates, information on services and activities for older people and a lot more.

Janis McDonald, Chief Executive of RCVS: “Last year’s first and experimental Agefest proved there was an appetite in the area for celebrating the contribution older adults make to the wider community. We hope that other older adults will now get involved to help plan a bigger and better day for 2011.”

Anyone who is interested in joining the AgeFest 2011 Planning Group should contact Janis McDonald on 0141 587 2487 or janis.mcdonald@rcvsweb.co.uk. Please let us know what you can bring to the Group in terms of experience, skills, contacts etc and be aware that there are limited places available.

We’re also seeking older adult acts and entertainers to perform at AgeFest 2011. Anyone who’d like to perform at the event should register their interest with Janis McDonald using the contact details listed above.

AgeFest 2011 is being organised by Renfrewshire Council for Voluntary Services (RCVS), Renfrewshire Council, Reaching Older Adults in Renfrewshire (ROAR) and Renfrewshire Seniors Forums.
