A mobile testing unit is being set up in Glenburn and anyone who lives, works or goes to school in Glenburn or Foxbar with or without symptoms of the virus are being encouraged to get a test.

Renfrewshire is currently in Level 2 of the Scottish Government’s protective measures but cases have been rising over recent days. The community testing site is intended to help change that by stopping transmission of the virus by identifying people who have Covid-19.

Renfrewshire Provost Lorraine Cameron urged everyone to continue to play their part to help stop the spread over the coming weeks.

Provost Cameron said: “Everyone has made huge sacrifices over the past year to do their bit in helping to stop the spread of this virus and all of us need to do everything we can to continue this over the coming weeks, as we return to being able to see more of our family and friends and enjoy more of the activities we have all been missing.

“Cases have been rising across the region and as a council we are doing everything we can to manage and stop the spread, whether that’s testing through our schools or local community testing in areas where cases have been high. I would like to thank everyone who’s contributing to help manage this and would urge people to take up their vaccination when offered.

“That is why the council has taken swift action with additional community testing being deployed in the south of paisley from Sunday 23 May and I would encourage anyone who lives in Glenburn or Foxbar to come along and get tested and do their bit to help protect themselves, their loved ones and their community.”

The mobile testing unit will be located in Glenburn Community Centre car park from Sunday 23 May until Sunday 30 May and will operate from 9.30am – 6pm. Those attending by car can only access the site via Fairway Avenue.

Any Glenburn or Foxbar resident who wishes to be tested is being asked to book an appointment online. The site will use PCR tests – which are the most accurate Covid test and require to be sent away to a lab, with results arriving via text message or email.

There are a number of ways people in Renfrewshire can do their bit to help stop the spread of the virus. Residents can get tested either at the community testing sites or by accessing free Covid-19 home tests, getting the vaccine when it is offered, not travelling to Level 3 areas and continuing to follow the Level 2 guidelines around socialising indoors and outdoors.
