Four thousand runners will take part in the Paisley 10k and Fun Run on Sunday (16 August) - with thousands more expected to line the streets to cheer them on.

One of Paisley’s biggest sporting dates is once again a sell-out success, with a packed programme on the cards for runners and spectators.

The event, organised by OneRen and sponsored by Specsavers Paisley, will see competitors conquer personal goals, with many also raising money for causes close to their hearts.

The 10k will be started by Paisley’s World Cup hero, Craig Ferguson - the Tartan Army foot soldier who walked 3,100 miles across the United States in a kilt to raise money for SAMH (Scottish Action for Mental Health) before the national side took to the globe’s biggest sporting stage.

Councillor Lisa-Marie Hughes, Chair of OneRen, said: “The Paisley 10k is one of the highlights of our year and we’re delighted to welcome an amazing 4,000 runners for what promises to be another wonderful event.

“The streets of Paisley will be absolutely buzzing as runners and their supporters soak up the atmosphere - many visiting especially for the event.

“Whether you’re taking part to achieve a personal goal, raising money for charity, or simply coming along to enjoy the atmosphere with friends and family, we hope everyone has a fantastic day.”

As work continues to transform Paisley Museum, spectators can head up to ‘Museum Mile’, the stretch outside the building, to cheer on family and friends while also hearing fast facts about some of the objects and collections that will feature when the Museum reopens later this year.

The route takes in some of Paisley’s well-known sights, giving supporters plenty of opportunities to find a viewing spot and cheer on the thousands of runners taking part.

The Paisley 10k - supported by Renfrewshire Council and Kilbarchan AAC - has become one of Scotland’s favourite road races. The Fun Run, meanwhile, welcomes participants of all ages and abilities.

Kieron Achara MBE, former Scottish professional basketball player and OneRen Board member, will start the Fun Run. Commonwealth karate champion Amy Connell, one of Scotland’s most decorated martial artists, will present prizes to competitors.

This year’s main sponsor is Specsavers Paisley, a locally owned store located in the heart of the town. The team is committed to helping the local community and people across Renfrewshire look after their vision and hearing.
