Renfrewshire Council has signed a new £30 million roads maintenance framework, lining up the contractors who will resurface roads and pavements and carry out smaller traffic improvements across the area.
The framework, worth £30m excluding VAT, is split into three lots, and all three contracts were concluded on Tuesday 6 October.
Who will do the work
Carriageway resurfacing (£16m): John McGeady, J H Civil Engineering, Hillhouse Quarry Group and MacLay Civil Engineering.
Footway resurfacing (£6m), covering footways, footpaths and paved areas: John McGeady, J H Civil Engineering, Hillhouse Quarry Group and Ipsum Infrastructure.
Minor traffic improvements (£8m): John McGeady, Stepford Group, Luddon Construction and Lochwynd.
There was strong interest in the work. The council received seven tenders for carriageway resurfacing, 12 for footway resurfacing and ten for minor traffic improvements, with bids scored 60 per cent on price and 40 per cent on quality.
What it means for your street
A framework sets up an approved pool of firms the council can call on as individual schemes come forward, so it doesn’t mean particular streets have been picked yet. Decisions on which roads and footways are treated, and when, will follow as the council draws up its programmes of work.
For residents, it means the contractors are now in place to keep Renfrewshire’s roads, pavements and junctions in better shape over the years ahead.
