The whole world knows that when it comes to the New Year, nobody celebrates it with the style and exuberance of Scotland. Paisley keeps up that fine tradition, and if you’re celebrating it right here in the heart of Renfrewshire, you’ll never be far from a party or two and a warming cup. Whether you celebrate in Paisley or head a little further afield in Glasgow you’re sure to enjoy a Hogmanay with plenty of heart, but it may be that you want to see how they celebrate New Year outside of Scotland for a change? Here are three cities with Hogmanay celebrations to rival Paisleys, and within easy and affordable reach.

London

If you love noise, love crowds, and fireworks, then why not head down to London and see the New Year in on the banks of the Thames? For sheer spectacle it almost matches the thrills of Edinburgh and Glasgow, but you may not enjoy it quite so much if you’re of a claustrophobic nature. Accommodation books up early, but as it’s such a large city there’s a wide choice available, so there’s something for all budgets. There’s a plethora of world class sights and attractions here too, so why not stay for a few days before heading back to Scotland with some fabulous memories?

Manchester

London may be the capital of all England, but Manchester is undoubtedly the capital of northern England, and with its excellent transport infrastructure it’s even easier to reach from Paisley. It’s a party loving city that is famed for its welcoming character, so you’re sure to feel at home. New Year’s Eve celebrations centre upon Deansgate outside the Cathedral from 2019 onwards, so be aware of the change if you’ve previously celebrated them in Albert Square or Piccadilly Gardens. If you’re looking for a high quality, great value place to stay then the New Native Manchester Aparthotel is hard to beat. Centrally located near Piccadilly Station its spacious rooms are beautifully designed and a perfect place from which to explore this booming city.

Dublin

You may not meet Molly Malone if you head to Dublin’s fair city this New Year’s Eve but you are sure to meet revellers from across the world who have come to see the New Year in in the gregarious Irish capital. The big countdown takes place outside the historic Custom House, which is then followed by the Liffey Lights, a spectacular pyrotechnic display along the river running through Dublin’s centre. If you have any energy left on the following day you can take in the New Year’s Day celebrations in Temple Bar, including a concert featuring traditional Irish music alongside some of the country’s modern chart-topping bands.

Whether you stay in Manchester’s New Native Aparthotel, or in accommodation in London or Dublin, you’re sure to find New Year’s Eve celebrations that tick all the right boxes. You may want to plan ahead and book now for visits at the end of December 2020, but if you don’t, you’ll still find a stunning Hogmanay celebration right here in Paisley to see this New Year in in style.
