“This significant investment from Scottish Enterprise will support a major new development at AMIDS to accelerate the growth of advanced manufacturing” – Scottish Government Business Minister Richard Lochhead

Scottish Enterprise has approved a £4.74m package to deliver a major new development at the Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District Scotland (AMIDS) in Renfrewshire.

Modern office buildings with geometric patterns, people walking and cycling on pathways, trees and landscaped greenery in the foreground, and a partly cloudy sky above.

This funding will be matched by the AMIDS joint venture partners Renfrewshire Council and Buccleuch Property and will facilitate and accelerate the growth of advanced manufacturing in Scotland.

The development, known as Tech Terrace, aims to establish a world-class, high-value manufacturing cluster within a campus environment, where innovative organisations can work together to pioneer breakthroughs and meet challenges of the future and drive economic growth.

The first phase will deliver units ranging from 2,000 sq. ft up to 16,000 sq. ft over a total area of 30,000 sq. ft, providing much needed space for organisations to scale in a supportive, collaborative and entrepreneurial environment.

AMIDS also offers bespoke design and build opportunities with planning permission in principle in place for up to 750,000 sq. ft of floorspace for high value advanced manufacturing.

Renfrewshire Council Leader Iain Nicolson said: “This is a fantastic step forward for AMIDS as we create opportunities for advanced manufacturing businesses to locate here and bring with them jobs, high-value skills and investment to Renfrewshire.

Modern office buildings with black and tan geometric patterns, large windows, and people walking or sitting outside on a sunny day; landscaped surroundings and a clear sky.

“Tech Terrace will be invaluable in supporting businesses to initially locate within the district and receive the benefits of a manufacturing cluster, before taking the opportunity to build larger, bespoke facilities in the district to as they scale up their operations.

“The development of AMIDS will not only enhance the advanced manufacturing sector, but provide local people with access to high-quality jobs as we position Renfrewshire as a global leader of advanced manufacturing.”

The investment aligns with Scottish Enterprise’s strategic priorities of fostering innovation, supporting the creation of high-quality jobs and responding to strong market demand for specialist research and development (R&D) and advanced manufacturing space.

Scottish Government Business Minister Richard Lochhead said: “Innovation is one of Scotland’s greatest exports. It is important we continue to provide the right support and conditions that help drive the phenomenal developments taking place across the country’s high-growth, high-innovation industries in order to maximise their economic potential.

“Tech Terrace is an excellent example of how the Scottish Government and our enterprise agencies are supporting deliver this potential. This significant investment from Scottish Enterprise will support a major new development at AMIDS to accelerate the growth of advanced manufacturing, providing space for organisations to grow in a supportive, collaborative and entrepreneurial environment.”

Scottish Enterprise Managing Director of Innovation and Investment Jane Martin added: “We have a mission to support ambitious Scottish companies to innovate and scale, and part of that is ensuring the delivery of modern infrastructure.

“High Value Manufacturing is a hugely important sector for the future of Scotland’s economy and with this investment in Tech Terrace we are demonstrating that we recognise the importance of innovation districts as places where companies can locate and grow, with the support of a strong cluster network and public, private and academic sectors.”

Tech Terrace will address a recognised gap in the market, enabling high-growth companies to scale up in Scotland.

Sandy Smith, Development Director at Buccleuch Property added “We are delighted to secure this support from Scottish Enterprise for Tech Terrace, which we believe will be the catalyst for rapid development at AMIDS. Our professional team is now fully engaged and progressing towards detailed planning, with construction targeted to begin in the latter half of 2026.”

A planning application is due to be submitted in Spring 2026 which if approved will support construction to begin in late 2026.
