A new civic plaza, garden and events space will be created in Erskine to provide a focal point for the local community.

The project is the first phase of a wider framework for enhancements within the town centre that Renfrewshire Council has developed with local residents and community groups.

Bringing into use vacant land at Erskine Sports Centre, the new plaza will create a meeting space for local people which could also be used to accommodate local events and market stalls.

The plaza will include a recreational greenspace and garden, with seating areas and natural play features, as well as more attractive walking routes from town centre retail to the sports and medical centres, and out to the nearby waterfront.

Engagement with local people supported the final designs for the project, with the inclusion of natural play equipment, improved lighting on paths, infrastructure to support a Christmas Tree and fencing and hedges to border the site all added following suggestions from local people.

Councillor Andy Steel, Convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Economy and Regeneration Policy Board, said: “It’s great to see these proposals coming to fruition following close engagement with the local community in Erskine who told us that they felt the area was lacking a civic space for events to be held.

“The new plaza and greenspace will make this area more attractive and encourage local people to visit, with the opportunity for markets or community events to be held here.

“We’re continuing to work hard to develop all of our town and villages and this significant investment will make a positive difference to Erskine and everyone who lives there or visits.”

The project represents an investment of over £500,000 within the town centre and has been funded by Renfrewshire Council, the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund and the Scottish Government’s Place Based Investment Programme.

The contract has been awarded to Covanburn Contracts Limited and work is set to get underway in early January 2026 and be completed over the summer.
