A record-breaking number of runners have signed up for this year’s Paisley 10k Road Race and Fun Run.

At least 4,700 people will hit the streets on Sunday August 17 for an event hailed by runners as the “most fun” of its kind in Scotland.

And entries are expected to grow further still, with registrations remaining open until Friday August 15.

The 10k and fun run – organised by OneRen, supported by Renfrewshire Council and Kilbarchan Amateur Athletics Club – is one of the biggest dates in Paisley’s sporting and events calendar.

Many of the fun runners will be collectively raising thousands of pounds for charitable causes.

The 4,700-plus entry for 2025 is up on the previous 4,555 record who signed up last year.

Fiona Watson, OneRen’s Sport and Health Services Manager, said: “We’re delighted to be smashing last year’s record. The success of the 10k and fun run really is phenomenal as it goes from strength to strength. The welcome that runners get is a big part of that.

“The people of Paisley turn out in force to welcome runners and cheer them on and that’s just what they need. Word is also getting out that it’s a great family day out too,  with a terrific atmosphere along the route.

“Runners tell us that the Paisley 10k is the most fun fun run and road race. We like to think it is – and it’s great to see that thousands of people agree with us.”

The flat, fast route of the road race – a Scottish Athletics-verified 10k – is one of the major draws for competitors, including elite runners.

It takes entrants out to the west of the town following a loop of Paisley’s historic town centre. More than 3k is along the Paisley Canal to Kilmacolm cycle track, with the start and finish line in County Square, outside Paisley Gilmour Street train station.

The fun run – along a different route, which takes in many Paisley landmarks – is open to anyone who wants to walk, jog, run or push a buggy. It’s great for families, friends and youngsters to take part together.

Fiona added: “The Paisley 10k and Fun Run is a fantastic event that brings the community together. It’s great to see so many people getting involved and supporting one another.”

Registrations for the Paisley 10k Road Race and Fun Run close at midday on Friday August 15. Entries can be made at oneren.org/paisley-10k/
