Hundreds of kids had a summer of fun thanks to Renfrewshire Council’s free holiday activity camps.

Around 500 places were taken each week at the fully booked sessions provided by the Council’s Community Learning and Development team and Street Stuff

Activities included football, basketball, hand ball, hockey, badminton, tennis, dance, art and crafts. Sessions took place twice a week in Ferguslie, Foxbar, Gallowhill, Johnstone, Linwood and Renfrew.

While at the event, kids received a free healthy lunch.

Councillor Marie McGurk, convener of the Council’s Communities and Housing Policy Board, visited the camp at St Paul’s Primary School, Foxbar. She said: “It was great to see first-hand young people having fun at the summer camps. Summer should always be about having fun and making memories for young people while also ensuring families don’t have to spend additional money to support that. From the smiles I saw on my visit, I know the young people loved the experience.”

The activity camps are part of a wider Summer of Fun programme to support parents find free activities for children and families to take part in over the summer holidays. They are funded as part of the Council’s Fairer Renfrewshire £100,000 fund to support summer activities for low-income families.

The Fairer Renfrewshire programme also supports people get the right advice and support when they need it. Appointments with Renfrewshire Citizen Advice Bureau can be made by calling 0141 889 2121. People can email to make an appointment with the Council’s Advice Works team or call 0300 300 1235.
