Renfrewshire residents to have their say on council service priorities

Local residents are being asked for their views on what services are most important to them as Renfrewshire Council launches a new residents survey. 

The survey asks local people to give their views on Renfrewshire as a place to live, outline where the council is performing well, where things could improve, and what services should be prioritised in the future. 

A representative sample of residents will be invited to take part in a telephone survey to allow key data to be collected, an online survey will available for the wider public, with paper copies available from local libraries, and follow-up focus groups will take place too to ensure all residents and key community partners have the chance to put forward their views. 

It forms part of a drive to involve local communities in decision-making and outline a transparent process around budget setting in Renfrewshire – raising awareness of the fact that the majority of the Council’s funding is already ringfenced to services like schools and social care and council tax only makes up approximately 16% of the total council budget. 

Renfrewshire Council Leader Iain Nicolson said: “We’re committed to listening to local people and prioritising the delivery of the high-quality services which matter most to them. 

“As we continue to manage the challenges faced by public services, and recognising that local residents are facing financial challenges, we want to hear from communities about the services they use and what they feel is most important. 

“We know roads and schools are high on their list which is why we made the largest-ever investment in these areas as part of our budget this year and as we look ahead, we want to continue to put local priorities at the heart of our decision making.” 

As part of the 2025/26 budget, up to £170million will be invested over future years to reshape, refurbish and rebuild schools across Renfrewshire and £90million will be invested in roads, pathways and infrastructure. 

The budget also set out a commitment to continuing to create a fairer Renfrewshire which helps people with the cost of living, as well as providing further funding to help improve attainment, the local environment, town centre regeneration, and adult social care.
