Glasgow Roller Derby brings an international roller derby tournament (and classic rock) to Paisley

Glasgow Roller Derby is hosting Chaos on the Clyde, a high-level international roller derby tournament, on 24-25 August at the Lagoon Leisure Centre in Paisley.

A group of roller derby skaters pose enthusiastically on a rink. They wear helmets, knee pads, and roller skates, with some crouching and making playful gestures. The ceiling and walls of the indoor venue are visible in the background.

The tournament includes 4 teams who play 3 games each day, with the overall winner announced on the 25th. Glasgow Roller Derby’s Irn Bruisers will take on Leeds Roller Derby, Wiltshire Roller Derby, and Kallio Rolling Rainbow, all the way from Helsinki, Finland.

On the 24th, Status Quo tribute band ‘Status No’ will entertain spectators during the break between games. Chaos on the Clyde will also include a tombola, stalls from small businesses, and fun games.

X-MENTAL, captain of the Irn Bruisers, says, “Chaos is not just another game, it’s our biggest home event of the year . An opportunity for us to show how we have improved over the season, our enthusiasm for the sport, and our team unity. We have worked hard! Roller derby takes a lot of hard work, on and off the track, and our team works hard for each other. I really value my teammates and I believe in them. We got this.”

Status No says, “We’ve seen many roller derby games and love that derby attracts an inclusive family of people, very similar to the Status Quo fan base. There’s a fantastic community vibe around both camps and we’re excited to be playing the half-time show at this excellent international tournament. We encourage you to bring your own air guitar and join the fun. Keep on skatin’ and keep on rockin’.”

Glasgow Roller Derby (GRD) is a Womens’ Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) aligned roller derby team that was founded in 2007. Everyone involved in the club is a volunteer, and everything – training, recruitment, fundraising, merchandising, paperwork, and all of the other aspects of keeping a large and diverse organisation running smoothly – is entirely in the hands of the skaters, referees, and non-skating officials of GRD.
