Glasgow Airport’s FlightPath Fund has awarded £2000 to support the work of the Benedetti Foundation in Renfrewshire.

The funds awarded will be used by The Benedetti Foundation to deliver a series of activities to transform music education opportunities across at least nine schools in the area.

More than 1500 pupils from across Renfrewshire will benefit from taking part in a series of residency sessions – workshops aimed at improving music participation amongst pupils aged five to 15 years.

The Benedetti Foundation’s Primary workshops will be led by Lucy Drever and Calum Huggan and the sessions are a chance for pupils to explore rhythm and improvisation in a fun and engaging way.

The ‘Benedetti Sessions’ Strings Day on 2 June 2023 will see The Foundation’s Tutors and Ambassadors work with up to 100 young string players. The Foundation will also host professional development workshops for primary classroom and instrumental teachers.

The programme will take place between May and June next year and be run in partnership with Renfrewshire Music Service.

Calum Huggan, Tutor, The Benedetti Foundation commented: “Thank you so much to FlightPath for their funds to support the Foundation’s Residency Sessions in Renfrewshire next year. We really look forward to working with the young people in Renfrewshire, to being creative together, hearing their powerful ideas as to why we listen to music and having fun. We can’t wait!”

The Foundation was established in 2019 by inspirational Scottish violinist and dedicated music education advocate Nicola Benedetti, who was born in Irvine and grew up in West Kilbride. The Benedetti Foundation delivers transformative experiences through mass music education and aims to ensure equal access to music participation and appreciation for all.
