The winter is finally behind us and it’s nearing that time again when communities across Renfrewshire are gearing up for their annual gala days. Gala Days act as a great way for communities to get together and celebrate their local areas. Over the summer, Renfrewshire will see various gala days take place throughout most towns and villages.
SNP Councillor for Bishopton, Bridge of Weir and Langbank, Natalie Don, has encouraged people to attend and support their local gala days.
“Gala days are very important for communities and it is up to us, as local residents, to ensure that they continue to be a success. These events are one of the only chances that many groups have to fundraise for their projects through things like stalls, raffles and tombolas. They can also be a great opportunity for local charities to have a visible presence and raise awareness of their cause.”
“As well as attending gala days, it is important to appreciate the effort that goes into running them. Organisers put a huge amount of effort into the planning of these events and the volunteers required to oversee and run them can be taxing for even the largest community groups. Volunteers are always welcomed for these kind of events therefore I would encourage anyone with a little bit of time on their hands to offer support where possible..”
To make sure you don’t miss your local Gala Day, you can view the most up to date schedule of events for the summer online at: http://www.whatsonrenfrewshire.co.uk/events/gala-days/
