Creative people and Scottish cultural groups are being urged to get involved and help shape Paisley’s bid for UK City of Culture 2021 in a series of unique consultations.

Paisley 2021 UK City of Culture bid

Paisley 2021 is urging artists, organisations and community art groups to participate in a series of eight cultural consultations taking place during August and September in Paisley. Each event will look in detail at a different aspect of the arts and cultural sector and how Paisley 2021 can showcase the best that the town and Renfrewshire has to offer.

The eight cultural consultations are:

Youth Arts on Wednesday 17 August, 6-9pm, Wynd Centre

Music on Saturday 20 August, 2-4pm, Saporito High St

Visual Arts on Friday 2 September, 6-9pm, Paisley Museum

Film on Tuesday 6 September, 6-9pm, Paisley Arts Centre

Literature & Spoken Word on Wednesday 7 September, 6-9pm, Central Library

History & Heritage on Friday 9 September, 6-9pm, Paisley Museum

Fashion, Design & Applied Arts on Monday 12 September, 2-4pm, Paisley Museum

Theatre, Performance and Dance on Tuesday 13 September, 6-9pm, Paisley Arts Centre

Jean Cameron, Paisley 2021 Bid Director, said: “Our people, their stories and ideas are at the heart of the Paisley 2021 bid.  Paisley and Renfrewshire has a lively cultural scene, a vibrant voluntary sector and a growing cultural economy. The Paisley 2021 bid is about celebrating the town, our people, history, heritage and culture. Winning the bid would be a unique moment in time that puts the town firmly on the cultural map and unlocks creative opportunities right across Renfrewshire.

“These cultural conversations will play an important role in helping to inform the bid – we want to hear what local people and Scotland’s cultural community believe will boost the bid. The ideas and suggestions generated during these engagement events will be collated and reviewed as part of the Paisley 2021 bid.”

Each of the consultations is hosted by Paisley 2021 in partnership with local and national organisations. All events are free and pre-registration is recommended. To book or find out more about submitting your idea to the Paisley 2021 team, visit www.Paisley2021.co.uk.

Paisley’s bid for UK City of Culture 2021 aims to transform the town and Renfrewshire’s future by using its unique cultural and heritage offering as the home of the Paisley Pattern and one-time centre of the global textile industry.

Bids are expected to be lodged with the UK Government’s Department for Culture, Media and Sport in Spring 2017.
