Team up with your buddies for Paisley 10K

Renfrewshire’s Jogging Buddies network is just one of the groups leading the race to make this year’s Paisley 10k road race the biggest ever.

And Commonwealth Games hopeful runner Claire Gibson joined the group to officially launch online registration for this year’s event.

Renfrewshire girl Claire, an 800m runner and a strong hopeful for a place in the Scotland Team at the Delhi Commonwealth Games in October, is encouraging people to get together with their friends, family and workmates to sign up for the Paisley 10K.

The August 29th event, one of the flattest, fastest and easiest courses on the 10K circuit, is aiming to be the biggest in its 11-year history.

This year registration has been opened up to allow groups to register together and the Fun Run will see even more colourfully costumed runners take to the streets.

Claire said: “The Paisley 10K really is the best of both worlds as it’s a largely flat and fast course. This means it’s easier than many other 10K events for people with less experience but it’s also good for regular runners who are aiming to get a personal best time.

“If you have ever toyed with the idea of trying a 10K then this is the one to try and to make it even easier you can now sign up as a group of friends or colleagues and start training together.”

Almost 200 people have already pledged to take part through the website, and now they can officially register.

The Paisley 10K and Fun Run are key events in the Active Renfrewshire campaign which aims to give people of all ages and abilities the opportunities to lead an active lifestyle.

Councillor Susan McDonald, Renfrewshire Council’s sports champion, said: “The 10K has become a really big event with everyone from international athletes from Scotland and beyond to friends and family taking part for a bit of fun and exercise. There is also the Fun Run which is shorter and ideal for families or groups of children who want to get dressed up in costumes and run together. They might even win a prize for best outfit!

“Both events take place right in the heart of Paisley town centre only steps away from Gilmour Street train station and there will be free parking on the day so it’s really easy to get to. There are also changing facilities nearby at the Lagoon Leisure Centre.

“One of the key aims of the Active Renfrewshire campaign is to show that taking part in sports or physical activity is fun. Not only are there massive health benefits but it is also great for your social life so get your friends, or your family, or your workmates and get training. The countdown is on!”

To sign up for the Paisley 10K or Fun Run log on to www.paisley10k.com.
