The award recognises the use of sensor technology in council properties to transform how building conditions are monitored and managed.
Renfrewshire Council has won the Procurement Transformation through Technology Award at the GO Awards Scotland 2025. The award recognises innovation in digital procurement, with Renfrewshire Council becoming the first-ever recipient of this newly introduced category.
The award was given for the sensor technology used in council properties, a collaborative effort between the council’s housing and procurement teams. The initiative involves installing sensors in council homes to monitor environmental conditions such as moisture levels and ventilation patterns.
The data is analysed to produce tailored reports and recommendations for each property, enabling early identification of issues, reducing reactive repairs, and supporting efforts to combat fuel poverty and climate change.
Christine McCourt, Head of Finance and Procurement, said:

“It’s not about winning awards for them, but it’s also lovely for those teams to receive national recognition for their ongoing commitment and innovation.”

“This award recognises the kind of practical innovation that makes a real difference for our tenants. By using sensor data to understand what’s happening inside our homes, we’re able to respond to issues earlier and more effectively. “
Following the award win, the project is now shortlisted for the UK National GO Awards in 2026. The GO Awards honour excellence in public procurement, recognising initiatives that deliver real impact and value for money.
